My name is Saša Uhlová, I’m 42 and I come from the Czech Republic. The role of career guidance is crucial, because a number of people are unable to make sense of the changing world. It is especially important for people who don’t have access to internet, therefore have less information or have low qualification. I think that career guidance here is much more relevant than for people on higher positions. If people with low qualification or are coming from poor social background had good access to guidance, at minimum it would be a signal for them that the society cares about them and of course it can help them in making decisions. For me it is important that you realize that you cannot just advise the low-qualified people to negotiate their working conditions by themselves. There is a big difference when compared to people with higher level of qualification – low-qualified can loose their jobs the moment they ask for a higher wage. You as counsellors should be aware of this reality.
