WinningBackgammon.info back in business

Times are rough for online gaming these days. The rules of the industry are being redefined and it’s us, the gamers, who feel the direct impact of it all… that all being the infamous Unlawful Internet Gaming bill. But wait - things are not as bad as they would seem at first! In fact, for online backgammon it doesn’t look bad at all.

After a little personal leave we are back to spread the word of online backgammon. Timing is good too - no matter how cruel effects the Unlawful Internet Gaming bill might have on online gambling, well, backgammon is a skill game in the eyes of the law. That means no restrictions in money transfers, no bans to backgammon play sites, no men in black behind your door. In short, nothing changes.

But obviously it’s not that black and white, there will be changes. At this stage those changes can’t be fully predicted, such little time has passed since George W. Bush scribbled his name on the bill on that grey Friday, 13th October. But already in this little time major gambling and poker sites have been taking actions and playing safe by banning American players from their sites. “With too many stakeholders it just isn’t worth moving down the illegal road”, they say, even if the law will come into force only in July 2007. This obviously leaves a large number of players stranded, actively searching for an alternative to online poker.

Time for online backgammon

We believe, together with a lot of other people, that the Unlawful Internet Gaming bill could possibly be the best thing that happened to online backgammon in years. Backgammon is an attractive game with many similarities to poker and many online poker players will certainly be drawn to online backgammon. Today Gammon Empire witnesses more than 10,000 players 24/7, a year from now it could very well be 20,000 players. More players means more action, more money flowing around and bigger prize money tournaments.

Even if the new enforcement act will be only a temporary one and abolished in a few years, the effects on online backgammon won’t be temporary. Countless of new players will be introduced to online backgammon in the coming months and years and many will definitely be there to stay.
